The incredible story of Arachnobeea
ArachnoBeeA: The Cypriot team that won globally the “Best Mission Concept” of the NASA International SpaceApps Challenge 2015. The team’s members are 10 multinational talented Engineers, who designed the world’s first zero-g drone as a robotic assistant to astronauts: a versatile robotic “butler” for the astronauts on the International Space Station. Using their collective wisdom and special skills, they sought to change Space Travel for ever.
Having won the first prize, NASA invited ArachnoBeeA to the Kennedy Space Centre, Cape Canaveral, to attend an unmanned rocket launch to the International Space Station.
The documentary follows their journey from Space Apps Challenge Limassol 2015, to their international recognition from NASA, to the Kennedy Space Centre in Cape Canaveral. It aims to inspire the younger generations of future researchers and explorers and to showcase the talents and research potential that is present in Cyprus. “The incredible story of ArachnoBeeA” focuses on the events and struggles towards the US trip and the team dynamics, while it contemplates on issues such as the field of Space Exploration in Cyprus and the position of women in Science, Technology and Engineering.
